Located in the highly coveted Los Feliz Hills stands this enchanting 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath 1930’s Tudor Revival, designed by F. Scott Crowhurst and magazine published. From the moment of your arrival at this special residence, you’ll be absolutely swept away by its captivating aura. As you walk up the stone steps, you are first greeted by an original plaster frieze encasing narrative like motif, reminiscent of the Mother Goose fairy tale. Pass through the red storybook door and into the stunning and spacious living room, with cathedral-beamed ceiling, impressive fireplace, and large leaded-glass window to capture the gorgeous city views. Pass through an archway to enter the elegant dining room and kitchen. Enjoy a spacious chef’s kitchen with center-island, tasteful built-ins and gorgeous city views while you prepare your meals. Entertain in the dramatic dining room equipped with a gorgeous period chandelier, stunning views, and French doors leading to a peaceful patio surrounded by lush greenery.

Up the sweeping staircase you will find two lovely bedrooms and a stately bathroom. Enjoy a variety of views in the master bedroom, equipped with walk-in closet and both south-facing and north-facing windows, which look over the beautiful garden. Attached is a charming bath with double vanity sinks, tub, and shower. The second upstairs bedroom is perfectly situated to enjoy views of both the incredible backyard and the rolling hills of Griffith Park. Downstairs you will find the third bedroom, 3/4 bathroom, and a warm and inviting den with a classic brick fireplace, built-in bench, and floor-to-ceiling bookcases. The den also offers a whimsical “catio” extending from the window to allow your kitty some safely enclosed outdoor enjoyment. The den leads out to the stunning backyard with a gorgeous herringbone brick patio surrounded by lush landscaping, leading to a perfectly manicured, vine-draped pergola: the most scenic and tranquil place to dine al fresco. There is also potential to add that swimming pool you’ve always dreamed of! The home is approximately 2455 square feet, on an 8000 square foot lot. There is also a large space above the garage that is currently being used for storage, but could easily be transformed into a studio or home office. Come fall in love with this breathtaking home with old world details and the magic of Old Hollywood!

The architect, F. Scott Crowhurst, was the construction supervisor for most of the buildings erected by Walt Disney Productions. In 1932, he designed Walt Disney’s private home at 4053 Woking Way, which historians have described as “an enlarged Hansel and Gretel cottage”. Paul D. Newby commissioned Crowhurst to design this house after purchasing the vacant parcel in October 1933 from William Mead, one of the original developers of Los Feliz. While beautifully maintained, the house has kept its original quality and integrity. The Newby house may be eligible for listing in a local inventory of significant properties, due to its association with a skilled local designer/builder, its superb state of preservation, its unique plasterwork, and its contribution to the architectural and historical context of the Carnavon Way neighborhood.
